Earth Science
Interest in Earth Science
I have always considered myself a “science” person because I love learning about how the world works, but ever since attending Swiss Semester, I have had a deep passion for environmental science specifically. In the future I see myself melding my interest in business and environmental science to try to help solve the climate crisis.
New Trier Junior Science Award
One of two students selected by the science department for “demonstrated outstanding achievement in science, a dedication to helping themselves and others succeed, a curious and adventurous attitude, and an ability to see the world from different perspectives;”
Science Olympiad Team
I am a member of the New Trier Science Olympiad Junior Varsity Team. I have competed in various regional, state, and national invitational tournaments. I specialized and competed in three main events:
Experimental Design: A 3-person lab event designed to determine a participant’s ability to design, conduct and report the findings of an experiment entirely on-site with mystery materials and a guiding research question or topic. Highest Award: 2nd at the Palatine, IL state invite
Dynamic Planet (Hydrology): A 2-person combined test where participants use process skills to complete questions or draw diagrams related to the Earth’s fresh waters. Teams are presented with data, charts/graphs, pictures and diagrams, and written descriptions and asked to answer questions, perform calculations, and otherwise solve tasks. Personal specialization in rivers, calculations, and vocabulary. Highest Award: 5th at the Solon, OH Midwest invite
Forestry: A 2-person combined test event designed around knowledge of trees found in the U.S. Often the test was presented in stations with as little as 1-3 minutes to identify the tree species and answer questions about the species. Highest Award: 14th at the Solon, OH Midwest invite
I got 2nd place in Botany and 4th place in Agricultural Science at the Illinois Science Olympiad State Tournament. At the MIT nation-wide meet, I got 15th place.

DNS Capital LLC
This past summer I interned at DNS Capital LLC in Chicago. I conducted due diligence and analyzed possible investment opportunities and provided my thoughts in discussion with other team members.
Mountain Climbing
Mountain climbing is one of my favorite activities not only because I love being outdoors and experiencing nature up close, but because I get to do it with my brother. I have summited Breithorn (13,661 ft.) and Alphubel (13,799 ft.), in Zermatt, Switzerland, and The Grand Teton (13,775 ft.), in Jackson Hole, WY. Photos below!
Vanderbilt Programs for Talented Youth Environmental Field Research
I was selected to participate in an accelerated academic program with six hours a day of in-depth and focused classroom and field lab studies on water quality and public health. The class was an introduction to field research in environmental science. We visited multiple rivers in TN and tested the water to determine pollution levels and assess the causes of pollution. I also got to work with a team of three to write up our research findings from our labs at the Richland Creek Watershed, comparing our data to EPA standards. We reported our findings to the Director of the Division of Water Resources at the TN Department of Environment and Conservation. Photos below!
